Onyx, a deep black form of chalcedony, is one of the birthstones of December and is associated with the zodiac sign of Leo. Onyx derives its name from the Greek word for fingernail, based off a myth that onyx was the fingernails of Venus that had been clipped and scattered over the earth. The gods, feeling that no part of Venus’ beauty should ever perish, turned the nail clippings to stone. The ancient romans associated onyx with courage and thought it useful when defending one’s self from criticism. Onyx is also a protective stone for use when traveling and can bring spiritual inspiration, as well as aid in keeping one’s emotions and passions under control. Onyx can be worn to physically strengthen the heart, kidneys, nerves, hair, eyes, and nails. It can also relieve stress and sleep disorders.

Amazonite is a member of the feldspars group of minerals which make up more of the earth's crust than all other known minerals combined. Associated with the zodiac sign Virgo and one of the birthstones of December, it is widely believed that Amazonite is named after the Amazonian women warriors. There is also a belief that Amazonite was named after the River Amazon. However, it is unlikely that the River Amazon was rich in Amazonite, as whilst Amazonite does occur in Brazil, it has never been discovered in the vicinity of the great river.
Amazonite calms emotions and empowers the wearer with courage. Additionally, Amazonite enhances self-expression and creativity. In addition to this, Amazonite works on the throat chakra and is especially effective at aligning the heart and solar plexus chakras. It can also be used to control levels of calcium within the body. -referenced from gemtradenet.com

Garnet is the birthstone for the month of February and is associated with the zodiac sign Aquarius. The word Garnet is derived from the Greek word for pomegranate. This gemstone was used by ancient explorers and travelers to protect them on their journeys. Garnets were also often set in shields, armor, and buckles by crusaders because it was believed that the stone gives protection from wounds and stops bleeding. Native tribes all throughout the American continents used garnets to ward off evil influences and spirits. Garnet is said to be the stone of romantic love and passion, enhancing sensuality, sexuality, and intimacy. It is said to awaken creativity, positive energy, and self-confidence, and can bring success to one's career or business. Garnets have been thought to treat infectious diseases, blood poisoning, and heart and lung diseases. It is also a protective stone which is effective for protection from evil and nightmares and one that can be used for spiritual healing. Garnet is primarily associated with the root chakra, though it is effective at opening other chakras depending upon the color of the stone (for example, green garnet would be better suited for the heart chakra). –referenced from gemtradenet.com
